Your Brand Voice: Things to Think About

Your brand voice defines your writing process in a way that shows off your personality to the world. It unites your copy and expresses who you are and what you stand for, creating a consistent brand experience across all touch points.

Here are some of the questions you can ask yourself when you're working on getting that brand voice just right.

When people interact with your brand, how do you want them to feel?

This gets you to think about the big picture. What emotional brand experience do you want to deliver? Think about what your product/service does for people - how does it solve their problems or make their lives better?

What adjectives would you use to describe your brand?

Pick about 3 words. This is a good way to discover your brand voice attributes.

What does your competition sound like?

This is your opportunity to stand out and differentiate yourself through your brand voice.

What’s another brand with a voice you love?

It could be someone in your industry or in a totally different field. Don’t copy them, but think about how and why their voice resonates with you.

How do you want to talk about yourself?

Think about the way you describe what you do and the way you talk about yourself and your business. What type of words do you use?

Who do you NOT want to be?

It’s important to know who you aren’t. What buzzwords do you dislike? Are there any phrases to avoid? This can help you stay on track and remain true to yourself.
